Lack of facility leads to death of a pregnant woman in Aalo

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: A 25 years old pregnant woman died due to lack of facility in Aalo General hospital. She died on her way to general hospital, Pasighat, on October 20 last after she developed complications while in labour. The deceased, Late Jumi Lollen Doji, was admitted to General hospital, Aalo from where she was referred to Pasighat as the hospital lacked an anesthetist.

According to the husband Dagrik Doji, his wife was referred to general hospital Pasighat only during the eleventh hour.

"My wife could have been saved had the doctors acted responsibly. They did not let us know about the complicacy beforehand. She was already pale when she came out of the delivery room. She could have been saved had there been an anesthetist in the hospital. The doctor was reluctant to deal with the case. Instead of trying to avert the untoward happening, the doctor on duty referred the matter to General hospital Pasighat at the last moment. How come a General Hospital does not have an anesthetist?" says the aggrieved husband.

The husband also alleges that his late wife was attended by trainee nurses with only one senior nurse and that a male attendant was deputed by the hospital management to take care of his wife on the way to Pasighat general hospital.

Who is going to take the responsibility of such gross negligence because of irresponsible and insensitive doctors and hospital management, the aggrieved husband said.

Medical Superintendent (MS), General Hospital, Aalo, Dr Linya Lollen agrees that the situation could have been different had the hospital had an anesthetist while also informing that complications arose only during the second stage of labour.

"We could have performed C section on her if we had an anesthetic expert," he says.

He informed that the hospital has been without an anesthetic expert for quite long and that it had written to the concern authority for the same but there has been no action from the government's side.

"We have been demanding for an anesthetic expert for our hospital. We can do nothing if the higher authorities choose not to hear our pleas," the MS adds.

He however refutes the claim that the deceased was attended by trainee nurses and only one senior nurse.

"We never leave our patients in the hand of the trainee nurses," he says.

On the claim that one male attendant was deputed to look after the patient on the way to Pasighat, the medical superintendent clarified that the hospital does not have standby nurses to send during emergencies.

APMC concerned over irrational prescription of antibiotics

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: Arunachal Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) has taken serious note on the 'irrational' prescription of antibiotics by some physicians.

Raising the issue in its meeting on Saturday, the Council appealed to the medical practitioners for rational prescription of drugs. The meeting decided to take up 'Prescription Audit' of doctors' prescription randomly.

The Council also resolved to update the scientific knowledge of the modern medicine practitioners by accrediting Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours and award CME credit points, which will begin soon.

The meeting hailed the attempt of APMC to form 'Joint Ethics Committee' to address the issue of quackery that has plagued the state in the recent days.

Poma village selected as permanent site for Women College

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: Poma village in the outskirt of state capital Itanagar has finally been selected as the permanent site for the first women college in the state.

The decision was taken after a visit to the site by Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, Minister (urban) and local MLA (Doimukh) Nabam Rebia and Parliamentary Secretary (Education) Bamang Felix. They were accompanied by Secretary Education Bidol Tayeng, Special Secretary Education Mitali Namchoom, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Tai Kaye and Deputy SPD (RUSA) Minto Ete.

The college with about 378 students has already started functioning from a building belonging to the Department of Urban Development at Lekhi since 2014.

The land donated by six persons from the village will be surveyed and measured by the Land Department of Papum Pare and subsequently to be notified under the Land Acquisition Act.

Addressing a gathering at Poma village, Ngandam hope the land will be acquired soon and the construction work of the college building will also start during the current financial year. He further expressed the hope that the new college will benefit the entire state when it starts functioning as a Residential women college.

He appealed to the villagers to be united in matter of development and take up all development works through the Local MLA.

Parliamentary Secretary Felix called upon the people of the village to donate the land un-conditionally for the greater interest of the area.

Rebia also appealed to the villagers to avoid petty conflicts amongst themselves in matter of area development.

Earlier, the team visited the proposed Arunachal Law College, which is coming up at Jote village near Poma. The construction of Law College has been funded by NHPC under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Most of the works of the construction have been finished and the buildings are likely to be handed over by PWD to the Education Department in the second week of November 2016.

The Directorate of Technical and higher education has proposed to start the first session of LLB course from academic year 2017-18

The dignitaries also visited the construction work of National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Jote. The central Govt. institution NIT has already started functioning at Yupia temporarily since last 5 years. The executing agency has adopted a new technology of pre fabricated design, which is the first of its kind in the state.

Baichung tells APFA to strengthen league system to improve football in AP

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: Former Indian Football Captain Baichung Bhutia observed that the league system has to be strengthened so that best players could be identified to transform the future of football in Arunachal Pradesh. Indian Football icon Bhutia said this in a meeting with Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) to discuss on future of football in the state here this evening.

The meeting was initiated by Parliamentary Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Nyamar Karbak, to facilitate the state sports association to seek ideas and suggestion from Indian sporting icon, who is in the town for Young Leaders Connect (YLC) Conclave. Baichung added that league should be distributed at the district level to identify the talented players.

Former Indian Captain further advocated the revival of Inter-School Tournament to spot the best players from grass root level. He said that for that extra- pressure should be put on district sports association to regularly conduct tournament to select the best players.

To revamp the football in rural and district level, former Indian Football Captain states, " we need to create coaches to create players" adding that there is D-License course for coaches provided by All Indian Football Federation. He urged the APFA to send players who are interested in D-License coaching course saying that it generates employment opportunity for the players who are on verge of retirement.

Lauding the state government for providing funds for the sports promotion and development, compared to other states like Sikkim, Baichung said, "The state government is pumping so much money for the sports promotion and development, therefore, there should be better outcome".

Expressing concern that Arunachal and Nagaland have fewer players in national level football, he assured all possible help to improve the football in the state. Baichung is also advisory board member of All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) Technical Committee. He further assured possible help from federation in days to come.

Parliamentary Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Nyamar Karbak while welcoming Baichung Bhutia said after launching of Indian Super league (ISL), the potential of North-East footballers is reflected as many NE players are taking part. He said that department and association has to set target for football in next national game and should adopt Mizoram and Sikkim module of football development. Karbak assured full support from the state government in achieving the target but asked the association to be committed.

Earlier, APFA President Takam Sanjoy who is also former Member of Parliament highlighted the challenges being faced by the state football association and sought guidance from former Indian Football Captain to take football to new heights in Arunachal. Sanjoy also sought support and cooperation from AIFF in conducting tournaments and leagues in the state. Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Dani Sulu, Director of Youth Affairs DK Dinglow and Director Sports Tadar Apa also spoke on the occasion. The members of APFA and officials from the Sports and Youth Affairs were among others present during the meeting.

Workshop on ‘Campus to Corporate’ at RGU

RONO HILLS, Oct 29: The second day-long orientation workshop on "Campus to Corporate" was organised by the University Industry Interface Cell (UIIC) of Rajiv Gandhi University at RGU Campus on Oct 28.

The workshop provided an insight into what skills a student needs to pick up and the preparations a student needs to do to transit smoothly into the corporate world and professional life.

The resource persons for the workshop were Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Director, Manoj Das, and Sr Manager of ICICI Bank, Raktim Barooah.

Das stressed on the need of being flexible and the importance of building a mindset of entrepreurship in North East. He laid stress on the usage of local resources and local people for generating employment sustainable growth in Arunachal Pradesh and North East India.

Raktim Barooah in his address spoke about the importance of time management, professionalism, adaptability and patience as these are the traits that helps once to achieve success in professional life.

Acting Vice Chancellor of RGU, Prof N C Roy and Head of the Department of Management and Coordinator of UIIC, Arindam Garg also spoke in the workshop.

Health Deptt. cautions against alleged collection of money

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Department of Health and Family Welfare has cautioned against alleged collection of money from aspiring candidates by some unscrupulous persons/agencies with a promise to regularize jobs in the Health Department.

The alleged collection of money for regularization of jobs is not only unlawful but also an attempt to tarnish the image of the Health Department. The Department of Health & FW is in no way connected or responsible for such unlawful activity, said the Director of Health Services Dr. Moji Jini in a release.

All the aspiring candidates and others have been suggested not to succumb to such demand for money in lieu of regularization of job in the department.

Complaints with authentic proof against such activities may be submitted directly to the Police for appropriate action, Dr. Jini said.

Reliable information with proof may also be submitted to the internal vigilance officer of the department, he added.

Political parties urged to abide by election code of conduct

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The DEO cum Returning Officer of Anjaw Mamata Riba appealed to all political parties to abide by the election code of conduct.

The DEO instructed all sector magistrates, Naka in-charge, Static Surveillance Team (SST) Nodal Officers to carry out their duties and responsibilities as per directives of Election Commission of India.

The violation of MCC will not be spared and suitable action will be initiated as per guidelines of election laws and other legal provisions.

She cautioned all the officers and officials posted under Anjaw district to report back immediately.

Four candidates have taken nomination papers from the RO office but no one has filed nomination till filing of this report.

Flying Squad teams and Static Surveillance Teams have been deployed in entire Anjaw district at different strategic locations and sectors.

Meanwhile, COs A Ratan and Tami Taga along with security team carried out unannounced checking drive in Hayuliang, Swami Camp and Khuppa areas and seized few cashes of beer and IMFL from illegal possession of some shopkeepers and wayside hotels.

Malignant bone cancer surgery at RKMH

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: A grueling six-hour long surgery was performed successfully by Dr. Lenin Ligu, Orthopaedic Surgeon of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, wherein the cancerous bone and almost half of the leg bone along with knee joint of a 15-year-old girl, who was diagnosed with a very malignant cancer of bone called osteosarcoma in her left leg, have been replaced.

It is for first time that such difficult surgery has been done in the state, claimed a hospital release.

Generally, such patients' whole affected leg is removed.

However, this girl's guardians opted for a surgery which would save the limb. She was given three cycles of chemotherapy by the oncologist Dr. Leena Gupta Ligu of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, following the latest protocol called Neoadjuvent chemotherapy. This treatment had decreased the size of the tumour.

The patient is recuperating well in the hospital now.

Minister stresses need for quality education

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: State Home Minister, Kumar Waii has stressed on the need for quality education and urged the students to become disciplined. He was addressing the students during the annual cultural day-cum-food fest'16 themed 'Celebrating God's Diverse Beauty of Culture as One Humanity' of the Don Bosco College, Itanagar here on Saturday.

The college's Principal, Dr. Fr. Nicholas in his address stressed on the need for UGC grants for all round development of the college.

5th edition of YLC concludes

CM XI beat Bhutia’s team

Itanagar, Oct 29: The fifth edition of Young Leaders Connect (YLC) concluded at Itanagar on Saturday. The highlight of the second day was a friendly fundraising football match between Arunachal Pradesh CM XI and YLC XI at Naharlagun. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu led the CM XI team while YLC XI was captained by iconic Indian footballer and the Chairperson of YLC, Bhaichung Bhutia.

The thrilling encounter ended with a 2-2 draw in the scheduled time. However, CM XI won the match in the penalty shootout.

In the second session of the last day of YLC, the winner of the much anticipated competition 'The Entrepreneur' was also announced. Rewaz Chetri, a 22 year-old entrepreneur from Sikkim won this award this year for his startup 'North East Taxi'. The award comprised of a cheque of Rs 5 lakhs.

Regarding his venture, Chetri said, 'I started my venture when I was in the 2nd year of my college. Every year, almost 80 lakh tourists visit North East India. So, initially, I tried to arrange for tour guides for the tourists. However, after doing some market research, I realised that in North East, we don't need tour guides as the drivers only do their job. So, I started my startup North East Taxi which operates all across the region. I had started with 3 taxis but now I have 300 taxis at my service.'

SCERT conducts state-level role play & folk dance competition

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Population Education Cell of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Itanagar with support of NCERT, New Delhi, organized a State Level Role Play & Folk Dance Competition among school students at Bharat Scouts & Guides, State Headquarters, Naharlagun on Thursday last.

In all, fourteen teams from different districts of the state participated in these competition. In the Role Play Competition on Adolescence Education, the participants of GSS, New Seppa, East Kameng was adjudged as winners while GHSS, Khonsa, Tirap and GHSS, Yingkiong, Upper Siang were adjudged as the second and third prize winners respectively.

In the Folk Dance Competition on Population Education, KGBV, Dambuk, Lower Dibang Valley was adjudged as the winner team while, GHSS, Itanagar of the Capital Complex and KGBV, Yagrung, East Siang won the second and third prizes respectively.

The first prize winner teams of both these competitions will be participating in the National Level Role Play and Folk Dance Competition on Population Education scheduled to be held at New Delhi in December.

Earlier, while addressing the participants on the occasion, Capital Complex DDSE, Mallo Yam Gollo urged the students to disseminate the message to their classmates and friends in their respective districts. She further said that such type of competitions among students will not only preserve and promote our tradition and culture but will also go a long way in disseminating the contents on Population and Adolescence Education to the target groups.

Solar lamps gifted by NGO presented to CM

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: PCCF (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden G N Sinha presented 200 Solar Lamps to Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his residence here on Saturday.

EcoSOLUTIONS, an NGO gifted 2000 solar lamps to wildlife wing of Forest Department for distribution to people in fringe areas of National Parks and Sanctuaries this year, informed the PCCF. The NGO also gifted equal numbers of solar lamps to the department during 2015.

These lamps were distributed to DFOs of Yingkiong, Mouling, Aalo, Pasighat, Wildlife Division, Pasighat, Group 'C' & 'D' officials of Forest Department, Itanagar Zoo and school students on the concluding day of Widlife Week Celebration, 2016. These lamps were also presented in past to Parliamentary Secretary (E&F) CT Mein for distribution to people in Namsai area, Dr. Sinha informed.

Sinha further informed the CM that EcoSOLUTIONS has distributed 180574 Solar Lamps free of cost to needy persons in India including Arunachal Pradesh till date.

This NGO is also associated in providing clean drinking water and distribution of low cost Solar Cookers in remote villages.

While receiving the lamps, Pema stated that these Solar Lamps can solve the problem of erratic power supply in remote villages of Arunachal Pradesh.

Ashish Kundra, Commissioner (Finance) in an informal discussion with Sinha stated that EcoSOLUTIONS deserves commendation for their selfless service to the under-privileged by distributing Solar Lamps to peoples in remote villages of this country including Arunachal Pradesh.

Sensitization camp on environment protection ends

ROING, Oct 29: A two day programme that included a sensitization camp and a mass 'pranayam' cum yoga, and environmental protection camp concluded at the Government Higher Secondary School, Bolung here today.

Over 350 students, along with 30 teaching and non teaching staff, participated in the programme which was organised by Brahmakumaris Rajyoga Meditation Centre (BRMC) Tezu and Roing jointly.

The participants were educated regarding various types of drugs and their implications.

"Youth are the most targeted and is in threat. Gutkha, Tiranga, Rajaniganda and Pan Masala are bye products of tobacco which is predominantly available and commonly used by school goers resulting in common diseases like submucus fibrosis leading to cancer", said incharge of BRMC Tezu BK Jayanti. She urged the students to refrain from drugs if they wanted to excel in life.

In charge BRMC Roing BK Gitamoni also reminded the participants about the essence of spirituality and the importance of Rajyoga Meditation for a peaceful and happy lifestyle. She also spoke to them about moral education and how to live a happy life by doing good work.

Yoga and pranayam expert from RIWATCH, Abali, Jayant Borah, conducted the various asanas, mass parade and patriotic songs session for the participants. Executive Director RIWATCH Vijay Swami spoke about environmental protection in global perspective, its effect on ecology and environment, and about how it disturbs our day to day life.

A question hour and career counselling was also conducted during the programme.

While extending gratitude to the Brahmakumaris sisters, BR Das, History Senior Teacher (PGT) said spirituality and meditation is need of the hour to inculcate in the student and dissuade them from any sort of addiction.

Meeting on proper implementation of NRDWP and SBM(G) conducted

PASIGHAT, Oct 29: CE (EZ) PHE & department, Tomo Basar has convened a meeting with East Siang, DC and other stakeholder departments like DDSE, PD (DRDA), here on Friday last to discuss issues related to proper implementation of flagship programs like National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and Swacch Bharat Mission(G).

Informing that the GoI flagship program NRDWP is scheduled to be completed by 2022 while, the SBM (G) will be completed by 2019, Basar said that the goal can be achieved only if the administration along with other stakeholder departments and elected representatives can extend their full support and cooperation to the programme.

CE (EZ) further appealed to the DC to sanction water supply scheme under untied fund and MSDP for urgently needed habitations. He informed the house that source-protection for sustainability of the water can also be taken through Integrated Watershed Management and aforestation through the nodal agency at catchment areas of water sources.

He also stressed the need for creating awareness among people in the form of IEC to make SBM-G a success before creating infrastructure, developing of sanitation checklist for villages and schools and choosing of best technological option during implementation.

The CE also asked the ZPC for earmarking some amount under 'My Village My Development Program' as honorarium of the sanitation workers in each gram panchayat. (DIPRO)

Jambey inspects developmental projects in remote villages

TAWANG, Oct 29: Parliamentary Secretary for RWD, Jambey Tashi inspected various ongoing developmental projects in the remote villages of Buri and Bleteng, located near the Indo-Bhutan border here on Thursday last.

Tashi also convened a meeting with the locals to gather first-hand knowledge of their grievances and sought their support and co-operation in developing the region.

He also inspected the proposed site of Gyalwa Dzambhala park.

On Friday, Jambey inspected the ADC office and called on the staffs to dispense their duties with outmost sincerity.

Jambey later inspected Lumla Sports club and Open Gym at New Lumla.

Daporijo, Oct 29: The District Level National Children's Science Congress was held at Vivekananda Public School, Daporijo on Oct 28.

Altogether 14 teams from various schools of Upper Subansiri district participated in the programme where Vivekananda Public School bagged the first and third positions while Govt. Town School bagged the second position.

Speaking on the occasion DySP M. Ete lauded the importance of the programme to inculcate scientific temperament among the students. DDSE Tape Jeram also stressed the need for participation of students from different schools of the district in the event.

2nd East Kameng Veteran Football Championship begins

SEPPA, Oct 29: The 2nd East Kameng Veteran Football Championship was kicked off by Parliamentary Secretary (PWD) Mutchu Mithi here on Saturday.

In total, seven teams--Engineer XI, Bazar Veteran FC, Arunachal United FC, Donyi Puttung FC, DC XI FC, ATA-XI and 8th Bameng FC-are participating in the tournament.

The opening match was played between the Bazar Veteran FC and Arunachal United FC in which the latter defeated the former by 2-1 goal.

The organizing committee led by its Secretary Rajesh Singhi submitted a memorandum to the Parliamentary Secretary (PWD).

Traffic movement through IG Park suspended

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate Itanagar Capital Complex in an order has temporarily suspended vehicular traffic through IG Park, Itanagar with immediate effect till further order.

The order was issued after it was reported that some stray animals are roaming around the roads of the IG Park which is creating nuisance to the commuters.

Earlier, in order to redress the problem of traffic congestion, the DM had directed to open the IG Park gate from 8 am to 6 pm for flow of traffic. DIPRO

CoSAAP suspends indefinite strike

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) has temporarily suspended its third phase of indefinite agitation proposed to be launched from November 1 after government sought two month's time to redress their demands.

According to CoSSAP, the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (AR, Personnel, Home & Vigilance), who also is the Chairman of the High Power Committee to examine CoSAAP demands, sought two months time to bring a final shape of all the CoSAAP demands saying that the state government can not take major decision during the period of enforcement of election model code of conduct.

"If the state government fails to redress the demands within that time period, government employees will go ahead with its 3rd phase of indefinite strike after expiry of the two month's time period from December 26.

On the other hand, CoSSAP said, if the bye-election to Hayuliang Assembly Constituency goes uncontested and the process is completed before the scheduled date, it will wait till November 30 to redress their demands, failing which CoSSAP will launch the strike from December 1.

NSCN (K) cadre nabbed

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: Security forces apprehended an active NSCN (K) cadre and over ground worker of the outfit from Kharsang area on October 27.

Acting on specific input about the presence of UGs cadres in general area of Kharsang, a sustained operation was launched by the troops of Jairampur Battalion Assam Rifles and Arunachal Police which led to apprehension of self-styled Sgt Maj Mahesh Kalita of Lisan Basti and the over ground Rustam Momin alias Abba of Chingsa village under Kharsang Police Station of Changlang district, according to an AR release.

One 9 mm pistol with magazine and four 9 mm live rounds, Rs 1500 and 100 gm opium were seized from their possession.

The cadre was highly active and was trying to rejuvenate the foothold of banned organization amongst the locals by getting extensively involved in extortion activities.

It was also revealed during interrogation that Kalita was the personal bodyguard of the NSCN(K) leader. He came to India in October 2016 and had undergone training for 10 months before joining the organization in 2014.

IMWA suspends week-long shutter down strike

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: A stand off between Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) and Capital Complex Administration regarding dismantling of few structures, which were erected at Ganga market and Bank Tini Ali to 'celebrate Diwali in a grand manner', led to closure of shops and business establishments in Itanagar for a day on Saturday.

The shutter down strike was initiated by IMWA to register its protests against dismantling of the 'festival oriented structures without formal notification' by the Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner, informed IMWA president Yumlam Achung in a release. PLVs induction training held

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, (APSLSA) has organized a one-day orientation cum Induction Training program for around 47 Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) from Arunachal Law Academy, Lekhi at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Vivek Vihar, here on Saturday. It was a part of the monthly Plan of Action being initiated by APSLSA under the Legal Services Authority Act.

The resource person and APSLSA Member Secretary, Budi Habung spoke on legal services and its role, Lok Adalat/Legal Clinics and role of Para Legal Volunteers, while Yupia CJM H Kashyap delivered lecture on Basics of Civil and Criminal Laws and their practices.

ALA Assistant Professor Nani Mamung spoke on Drug Abuse/ Law and punishment under NDPS Act, while Dy Secy, Law and OSD APSLSA, Dani Belo, explained about the RTI and AP Victim Compensation Acts.

An interactive session with the participation was also held where the doubts were clarified by the resource persons. The programme ended with distribution of certificates to the trained PLVs.

Among others, ALA principal also attended the programme.

Essay competition on ‘Police-Public’ relation

ROING, Oct 29: As part of the 44th State Police Raising Day Celebrations, an essay competition on "Police Public Relation" was conducted by the Roing Police at the VKV Prayer Hall here on Friday.

A large number of students from various Government as well as private run schools participated in this district level essay competition.

The department informed that the best two essays from the district will be sent to the PHQ for final evaluation in the state level. The first three winners of the state level will receive cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively along with certificates. They also informed that keeping in mind the enthusiasm displayed by the participants, the department has decided to give cash prize of Rs 2000, Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 to the first three winners of the district level essay competition.

The department had also earlier conducted a football and volleyball match between the Roing police team and Tezu police team. The volleyball match was won by the Roing police team, while the football match was won by the Tezu police team.

A firing test was also conducted as part of the celebration, amongst Civil Police, APPBN and IRBN, the best three of which will further participate in the final competition that will be held at Itanagar.

AYUSH health awareness camps at Tawang district

TAWANG, Oct 29: A day-long health awareness camps on AYUSH were conducted by the District AYUSH Society Tawang under the aegis of National AYUSH Mission on Oct 28 at PHC Lhou and on at PHC Bongleng on Oct 29.

Dr. K. Meru Medical Officer cum Member Secretary of District AYUSH Society informed the participants about the National AYUSH Mission and District AYUSH Society Tawang. He asked them to avail the services of AYUSH systems of medicines which stand for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. Informing about the AYUSH services available at the different Government Health Institutions under Tawang, he said that AYUSH health services are available at free of cost in various Government Hospitals under Tawang district and are efficacious in dealing with different ailments and diseases. He said one should consult qualified AYUSH doctors while opting for treatment under AYUSH systems of medicines.

Dr. Lobsang Tempa, DRCHO called on the gathering to avail the Government's Health services under AUSH systems of medicines. He also emphasized the ASHAS for regular monthly VHNDs/roles of VHSCs in their respective villages, timely ANC checkups for pregnant mothers, immunization for children as per schedule and functions of Rogi Kalyan Samities.

Other speakers on these occasions include Dr. Asum Perme M.O (H) i/c PHC Bongleng, Namgey Tsering Anchal Chairperson of Mukto, Lobsang Dawa BCM Jang and Bomge Pakam District Account Manager.

Plant Health Camp

BASAR, Oct 29: A day-long Plant Health Camp for orange orchards was conducted on Oct 29 by KVK West Siang, ICAR A.P-Centre, Basar at Nyodu village for selected orange growing progressive farmers. All together 19 participants including 3 female participated in the programme.

The programme was initiated with the lecture by SMS Plant Protection Dr. Kangabam Suraj Singh, who explained about the needs of Plant Health Camp in orange and post monsoon Bordeaux paste application on the tree trunk. Further technical session was continued by him with the hands-on training on post monsoon Bordeaux paste application on tree trunk of orange. Bordeaux paste were applied to 150 orange trees and 25 trunk borer infected orange trees were treated with cotton swabbing method.

Governor, CM extend Diwali greetings

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: Arunachal Pradesh Governor, V Shanmuganathan has extended greetings to the people of the state as well as members of the armed and para military forces on the occasion of Deepavali.

In his message, the Governor said that Deepavali, the festival of lights inspires all to move towards light from darkness. Let us light the lamps of compassion, love and righteousness. 'Deepawali or Diwali is one of the biggest and the brightest of all festivals. It is the festival of lights that is marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance and dazzles all with its joy,' said Khandu in a message on eve of the festival.

Release pending fund

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The All Arunachal Pradesh Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Welfare Association (AAPKGBVWA) President, Tamuk Tania has in a release on Saturday appealed to the state government to release the pending fund amounting to Rs. 5 crores under miscellaneous heads for the session 2015-2016.

'If released different activities targeted for the students could be taken up like vocational life skills training and other heads, earmarked by the PAB, GoI, which is very essential to equip the students to make them self-reliant', Tania said and urged the GoAP to look into the matter in the larger interest of the students.

Debate competition

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Faculty of Law in collaboration with the Faculty of History, Himalayan University, Itanagar organised a debate competition on the topic "Women must have equal right to inherit ancestral property" on October 28.

Altogether, 39 students participated in the competition. Prizes and certificates would be distributed on the University Literary Programme to the winners.

Conflict between legislative policies and customary norms were also discussed during the debate.

Political economy aspects of the topic were also raised during the discussion.

Rogi Kalyan Samiti governing body meeting held

ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The Governing Body meeting of Hospital Management Society (Rogi Kalyan Samiti) stressed on strong monitoring and supervision to ensure accountability and proper implementation of various national health programmes.

A native of East Kameng district, Gyadi was a renowned artiste, film-maker and was deeply involved in the field of art and culture.
